One of our favorite photography blogs asked this question Whats your Why? or WHY do you do what you do ?
Its kinda hard to explain so Ill tell you a story. Last weekend we scheduled a Senior Session with Ava while we were in New Smyrna Beach Florida. Talking with her mom she told us Ava was “really excited and really nervous”…. Apparently a Miller Photography Style Senior Session is not very common in her area so it was something really different.
To add to the excitement, we had a 27 foot parachute dress with us to shoot on the beach. If that wasn’t enough awesome, We decided to do something really over the top. Disappearing island. This is an island that is only above water at low tide and requires a boat ride to get there. I have wanted to do a fashion shoot on the island for YEARS and this was our chance! Shelly and I got there a couple days early, consulted the tide chart to know when we could shoot, and scouted the island. Perfect! This is going to rock !!
On shoot day Ava and her dad arrived early with a suitcase full of clothes and accessories. I could tell she was a little nervous so I let Shelly work her magic and soon she was having fun and modeling like a pro. We drove down to the inlet at the beach and did a bit of warm up shooting on the jetty rocks. Then we moved back down to shoot on the boardwalk through the dunes. Ava was having a blast and we were too !
Another outfit change and then we were off to the boat docks to shoot some different looks.
Finally, the big finish. Ava changed into her last outfit and we loaded into the boat. It was a hoot seeing the joy on her face as dolphins were surfacing around the boat (Ava loves dolphins)
Once we hit the island, we got our lights set up and started getting her into the giant dress. Ava’s dad Max was a champ and helped us style the dress and get the motion we wanted as the sun was setting. It was a magical shoot. The weather was amazing, the location was exotic, the model was awesome, and best of all, she was having the time of her life. Seeing the smile on her face when she looked at the back of the camera was priceless.
That is WHY I love photography and specifically shooting Senior Portraits Miller Photography Style. When was the last time you were so excited about something that you got really nervous? I mean hands shaking a little bit nervous? Then your nervousness turns into excitement and joy ? And best of all, that excitement and joy turns into a life experience that somehow changes you a little leaving you with a bit more confidence and pride….
THAT is WHY I choose to spend my life Photographing Seniors. That we can create an experience that generates that kind of excitement, fun, and memories for our Seniors and Save that experience in Images that they will love for a lifetime…..that’s what gets me out of bed in the morning. We know that every time our seniors look at those amazing metal or canvas prints hanging on the wall, they will be transported back to that time they modeled for us and had the time of their life.
